GENERAL STORM DAMAGE FAQ
Q: IF I THINK MY ROOF IS DAMAGED. WHAT’S THE NEXT STEP?
A: Contact Carroll Bradford Inc. and schedule a full property damage inspection with an experienced and trained storm restoration contractor. There will be no cost for the inspection or any obligation to buy anything from our company.
Q: SHOULD I GET MULTIPLE BIDS OR INSPECTIONS?
A: Optional. My opinion on multiple bids are just to save the insurance companies money. Most times the insurance companies are looking for the lowest bid. They use the same computer software to determine the replacement cost of any loss to your home so unless instructed otherwise I would wait for the insurance paperwork.
Q: WHY SHOULD I GET MY HOME INSPECTED?
A: Your home is the biggest asset you possess. If your home is damaged, you may have a very short timeline to file an insurance claim. It is always smart to schedule an inspection as soon as possible. Storm damage to your home is the reason why you pay your premium each year.
Q: CAN ELITE STYLE CONSTRUCTION (ESC) HELP ME DEAL WITH MY INSURANCE CLAIM THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS?
A: Yes. Elite Style Construction (ESC) restoration team specialize in working through the complex insurance claims process to ensure you get the maximum value for your claim.
Q: WILL MY INSURANCE PREMIUMS GO UP IF I FILE A STORM DAMAGE CLAIM?
A: Most likely, but It is considered an "Act of God" storm damage claim so there is nothing you could have done to prevent it, so your rate do not increase because of that. Insurance companies determine raising premiums based on the zip code that you live in. The more claims filed in a certain zip code, the more you are in a “high risk” area to them so therefore your premiums go up. So basically if you noticed storm damage repairs happening around your neighborhood and you do not have your home inspected and or adjusted by your insurance company, you are essentially paying for everyone else’s damage around you. That’s what they won’t tell you in the commercials.
Q: CAN CONTRACTORS PAY INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLES? IS THIS TRUE?
A: Many contractors offer homeowners cash bonuses for displaying a sign in your yard, or for referrals to other homeowners. Ask our contractor about the programs we offer.
Q: CAN I TRUST DOOR-TO-DOOR CONTRACTORS?
A: Always be cautious of anyone who knocks on your door. The truth is though, many of the storm related issues to homes are made aware from contractors who have to physically knock on your door to get the homeowners attention. We always ask to do your research and make sure they are a credible company that is properly licensed, insured, and trained to install and service materials in your area. At Elite Style Construction (ESC) we have a more “old school” approach to marketing and advertising storm damage. It’s called the face to face, I shake your hand, and you shake mine theory. We strive to do exactly what we say we are going to do. We will put our best foot forward to try and gain your trust, your business, and the best way to do that is not by online ads, mailing letters, and commercials. It’s by meeting them face to face, and determining if you are the right person for the job.
Q: WHAT IS A CONTINGENCY AGREEMENT?
A: A contingency agreement typically includes two parts, an inspection agreement which gives the contractor permission to request an inspection from your insurance company, and a work-order agreement, which obligates you to use that contractor to perform your repairs, in the case damage is found.
Q: HOW LONG CAN I FILE AN INSURANCE CLAIM AFTER THE STORM HITS?
A: Contact your insurance agent to see how long you have to file on a particular claim. They will always ask for a “Date of Loss” make sure you are aware of the date the storm happened.
Q: CAN I TRUST MY INSURANCE AGENT ABOUT A STORM RELATED CLAIM?
A: Though you may like your insurance agent on a personal level, always remember, your insurance agent works for the insurance company! Which is in business to make money. Contractors that are referred by your insurance company may have financial incentive to save the insurance company money, at the homeowner’s expense.
Q: MY INSURANCE COMPANY DENIED MY CLAIM. WHAT CAN I DO?
A: You can request second opinion from your insurance company and re-file a claim that has been denied. To increase your chances of approval make sure an Elite Style Construction (ESC) rep is present during the inspection.
Q: MY HOME WAS HIT BY HAIL, BUT I DON'T SEE ANY DAMAGE. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
A: It can be difficult to identify signs of hail damage from ground level. Have a trained professional inspect your property and look for directly to the shingle. We identify hail by the granules from your shingle being driven directly into the matting which leaves an indentation and a circular pocket to the affected area.
Q: WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF NOT FIXING A HAIL DAMAGED ROOF?
A: The common problems associated with hail damage are leaking water and flooding. Over a period of time, water that leaks through small holes in your roof caused by hail can cause major issues including water damage, mold and structural damage.
